Since we prepared the banner story about the effect of US-imposed Tariffs in VTuber culture, more fans in the said country have felt the abrupt rise in additional charges. Here's what's happened since (as first mentioned to NewsDrop Digest subscribers):
- Brave group US has suspended shipments to the US for around a month for orders shipping, which started April 27.
- HYTE has increased prices, and have asked customers to purchase items before the new pricing goes on effect Thursday, April 8.
- Good Smile Company temporarily pauses all new pre-orders for US customers until further notice.
- Hiokleo, a horror VTuber and merch artist from Canada, has already said goodbye to their US customers–representing 80% of their current profits–but promises to resume activities in the country once the situation is sorted out.
- The official hololive production shop laid out their price adjustments, as well as a list of over 4,000 affected items April 18. These adjustments have now taken effect Friday, May 2–still to the surprise of all hololive fans in the US.
- For example, you will need to pay around $92 for a Gawr Gura hololive Friends with U plush (sold at a base price of $25).
- You'll need to pay around $350 to have a FUWAMOCO 1 Million Subscribers Celebration merch set (priced at $105) shipped to your doorstep nowadays.
- A fan from Canada said they can order the same set for US$162.
- Mori Calliope is among the first to respond to these concerns, with Mori replying to a tweet: "Please never feel that you have to buy our merch. I’m happy just to have y’alls support watching my streams and enjoying my music!!"
- Follow-up: This clip posted on X/Twitter says COVER is aware of the matter, and everyone is trying to get a solution as soon as possible.
