My Dress-Up Darling: Three Costumes We Can't Wait to See!

My Dress-Up Darling returns for a second season this summer! And while seeing Wakana and Marin being awkwardly cute with each other is exciting enough, there's more we want to see. Manga readers know there are lots of inventive, cute, and daunting costumes on the horizon. One might even change everything for our cosplaying couple!

Whether you've read the manga or are an anime-only and just curious, join us for a look ahead. We have no idea how far the second season will go, but we have our fingers crossed for these amazing fits!

 

Rei Kogami

As My Dress-Up Darling goes on, Marin begins modeling costumes in a variety of new venues. One of those is her school, as she takes on a crossplay challenge to help her class earn points during the school festival. She picks Rei Kogami, the cross-dressing protagonist from the in-universe series The Student Council President is the No. 1 Host. And, of course, she absolutely rocks it.

This character is a bit Ouran, a bit Dear Brother. Putting this costume together will require Wakana to lean on the skills he learned helping Shinju cosplay Soma. Marin will also learn how to carry herself to fit a more masculine character. We won't spoil how things turn out at the festival. But with Marin onstage and Wakana dressing her, we're sure you can guess.

 

Rose

There's more group cosplay to come in My Dress-Up Darling… and this time, Wakana isn't making Marin's costume! For various reasons, she goes for an off-the-rack costume while cosplaying Rose from the visual novel Coffin. But don't worry: Wakana is still on hand to assist with eerie makeup and some… interesting props.

The Coffin arc has some of the most stunning art in the manga, second only to the arc that comes after. The brain-bending visual novel at the heart of this cosplay group is, at first glance, a murder mystery. Nuns are dying one by one in a convent. But why? The answer will shock you… it sure as heck shocked Wakana!

 

Haniel

There's no telling if My Dress-Up Darling will make it to the Haniel Arc in its second season, but we certainly hope so! This archangel from the in-series manga Heaven's Will captivates everyone who sees them… both manga characters and readers! What starts as a request from Marin turns into something of a personal quest for Wakana, as he seeks to recreate this ethereal character as accurately as possible.

Both Haniel and Heaven's Will in general have a sort of Yoshitaka Amano vibe to them. The surrealism of the story, the fan following, and the design are a bit reminiscent of Angel's Egg. And when Marin hits Comiket in this otherworldly cosplay, she causes a massive stir. Seeing Haniel—both in-series and as cosplayed by Marin—fully animated would be a real treat!
